The GL-DYX150F is the short-format member of the VHF terminal antenna family, just 10 cm tall, built for situations where a full-length whip gets in the way. It still covers the full 134-173 MHz two-way radio band and still delivers 1.8 dBi, but the priority here is a low, snag-free profile that keeps the radio compact and unobtrusive.

Why a Stubby

A shorter antenna is easier to conceal under a jacket, less likely to catch on seatbelts, scaffolding or doorways, and more comfortable when the radio is worn close to the body all day. Plainclothes security, retail loss-prevention and crowded indoor venues all benefit from an aerial that does not advertise itself or get knocked around. The trade for that convenience is a slightly shorter reach than a long whip, which is rarely an issue at close-to-medium range inside buildings and dense sites.

Electrical and Mechanical

The element is a 50 ohm vertical radiator with an omnidirectional response and a 30 W power rating, matched across the 136-174 MHz region. A flexible outer jacket lets it flex and recover instead of snapping, and it terminates in a BNC or TNC male connector to suit common professional handhelds. The stubby form also lowers the centre of gravity of the radio so it sits better in a pocket or holster.
