Overview

The GL-DY150I is a four-bay folded dipole array for the 134-173 MHz VHF band, built as a high-power base-station antenna. Unlike a simple whip, a folded dipole array stacks several driven bays along a support, and the way those bays are arranged lets the same hardware run as an omnidirectional radiator giving 8.8 dBi around the mast, or as a directional antenna giving 11.8 dBi toward one side. That configurability makes it a flexible backbone antenna for a fixed VHF site.

High-Power Base-Station Performance

The array is rated for 500 W, far beyond a typical mobile or handheld antenna, which suits repeater sites, paging transmitters and trunked base stations that run continuous high duty cycles. Folded dipole elements are inherently broadband and rugged, holding a clean match across the 134-173 MHz span, and they handle the thermal and voltage stress of high-power continuous transmission better than thin radiators. The vertical polarization matches land-mobile networks.

Construction and Installation

Standing 5.5 m tall, the antenna ships separated into two parts for practical transport and is assembled on site before being raised on a mast. The 50 ohm feed is available with a UHF or N-female connector, and a 60 m/s wind rating supports permanent exposed installation on a tower or rooftop. The robust dipole and support hardware is designed for years of unattended outdoor service.

The GL-DY150IA raises gain slightly, the GL-DY150IS is a shorter two-part version, and the larger GL-DY150II and GL-DY150IIA add bays for more gain.
