A Butterfly Dipole Array

The GL-DY150IIA-1 is a butterfly-configuration eight-dipole VHF antenna for 134-173 MHz, delivering 10 dBi at a 500 W rating. The butterfly (bowtie) form of the dipole bays broadens the bandwidth and, importantly, smooths the horizontal radiation pattern. Where ordinary stacked dipoles can develop ripples and nulls around the azimuth, this design is engineered for excellent radiation stability on the horizontal plane, giving consistent coverage in every direction.

Why Pattern Stability Matters

For an omnidirectional base station, an uneven azimuth pattern means some streets or districts receive far less signal than others at the same distance. The butterfly dipole geometry minimises that variation, so coverage is even and predictable all the way around the site, which reduces dead spots and complaints on a public network. The wideband behaviour also keeps the match clean across the full 134-173 MHz span, and the 500 W rating supports continuous high-power transmission.

Construction

The 6.7 m array ships separated into two parts for transport and on-site assembly, and presents a 50 ohm feed on a UHF or N-female connector. A 60 m/s wind rating and weatherproof hardware support permanent mast-top service. The vertical polarization matches land-mobile, paging and trunked systems.
