A Stacked High-Gain Array

The GL-DY230E is the top performer of the 220-290 MHz Yagi family, built as a stacked array of two eight-element bays. Combining the bays vertically raises forward gain to 14 dBi, several dB above any single-boom model in the range, by compressing the vertical beam and adding the apertures together. This is the antenna for the most demanding 220 MHz paths, where every decibel of margin counts.

How Stacking Helps

Two rows of eight elements produce a 40 degree horizontal but a much tighter vertical beamwidth, with an 18 dB front-to-back ratio. The narrowed vertical lobe puts more energy along the horizon toward a distant station instead of wasting it at high angles, which is exactly what long terrestrial links need. The trade is a physically larger structure and slightly more precise aiming, both well justified when the goal is maximum reliable range.

Mechanical and Electrical

The bays are phased to a common 50 ohm feed brought out on an N-female connector, with a 100 W rating for fixed transmitters. Although the boom length is 1.5 m per bay the stacked frame presents a larger wind area, so a strong mast and the full 60 m/s wind hardware are important for a stable, lasting installation. The array is intended for permanent fixed-link service.

Selection Notes

Choose GL-DY230E when a single-boom beam cannot provide enough margin. For lighter installs the 10-element GL-DY230D, 8-element GL-DY230C and 5-element GL-DY230B trade gain for size and simplicity. Confirm the operating band, far-end polarization and mast capacity before deploying the array.
