VHF Directional Beam

The GL-DYJ150B is a 5-element Yagi for the 134-173 MHz VHF band, the spectrum used by land-mobile radio, paging, marine shore stations and VHF data. It turns an omnidirectional VHF signal into a focused 9 dBi beam on a 1.6 m boom, ideal when a fixed station needs to concentrate its energy toward one repeater, base or remote site instead of radiating in every direction.

Why Go Directional on VHF

VHF wavelengths are long, so even a modest five-element beam is physically sizeable but delivers a real coverage advantage: the gain extends range toward the target while the rearward rejection cuts noise and co-channel interference arriving from behind. That combination is often what rescues a weak repeater path or lets a quiet rural site reach a distant hub. Polarization is set vertical or horizontal by the mounting, to match the system at the far end.

Feed and Build

The antenna offers a choice of UHF or N-female connector on its 50 ohm feed and handles 100 W, suiting repeater links and base transmitters. The 1.6 m boom is straightforward to mount on a pole or tower leg, and weatherproof hardware supports permanent outdoor installation in the field.
