Higher-Gain VHF Yagi

The GL-DYJ150C extends the VHF Yagi family to eight elements on a 2.2 m boom, raising gain to 11.2 dBi. On the long wavelengths of the 134-173 MHz band that boom length is substantial, but it buys a meaningfully tighter beam and roughly 2 dB more forward gain than the five-element model, which can extend a VHF link by a useful margin or restore reliability to a fading path.

Beam Characteristics

Adding directors sharpens the main lobe and improves directivity, so more of the transmitter output reaches the distant station and less interference is received from the rear and sides. This makes the antenna well suited to congested VHF environments where several systems share the spectrum and a clean pattern keeps them from desensitising one another. The boom can be oriented for vertical or horizontal polarization to match the partner antenna.

Mechanical and Electrical

The 50 ohm feed is available with a UHF or N-female connector and the antenna is rated for 100 W. At 2.2 m the boom is the longest single-row VHF beam in this line, so a solid mast and careful aiming pay off, and the weather-rated hardware holds alignment through wind and seasons.

Choosing the Beam

Select GL-DYJ150C when the 5-element GL-DYJ150B lacks margin. For maximum VHF gain the stacked GL-DYJ150D and GL-DYJ150E arrays compress the vertical beam further. Confirm channel, connector and far-end polarization before commissioning.
