A brief history of the Mid-Autumn Festival

Celebrated on the fifteenth day of the eighth month of the Chinese lunar calendar, the Mid-Autumn Festival grew from older customs of honoring the moon in autumn. Moon viewing became popular during the Tang dynasty, and by the Song dynasty the fifteenth day of the eighth lunar month was established as a festival. Over time, the full moon became a symbol of reunion and a way to remember loved ones who are far away. The China Intangible Cultural Heritage archive traces this history and the traditions that followed.

Today, many families gather to admire the moon, share mooncakes and tea, and exchange wishes for togetherness. Stories of Chang’e and the Jade Rabbit remain part of the festival’s folklore, adding imagination to a celebration centered on family and connection.

Happy Mid-Autumn Festival

To our customers, partners, colleagues and friends around the world: thank you for being part of our journey. We wish you and your families a peaceful holiday and a joyful reunion. Happy Mid-Autumn Festival!
